I am not sure we will have a signal there so I am posting for the day.
Thanks for all the comments- it is fun to hear from all. I'll try to answer a few questions:
No we have not needed to say ninatapika yet.
We are a group of 74 people in all.
No, I don't think a baby elephant will fit in our luggage.

Kiswahili is variable from country to country so we are learning as we go. For example: Mambo- how's it going? Pao- cool; Jambo- hello, and Poa chchi coman dici - cool like a banana.
PART TWO
We continued hiking after lunch, leaving the Montane Forest and entering the Heath Zone. We reached a ridge which gave us our first real look at the peak of Kilimanjaro (pictured above). We could also see down to the Shira Plateau, which is a giant caldera, and where our camp for the night was set up. Another half hour of hiking (downhill), and we were home for the night.
Once the sun went down it got very cold, but it was very clear and very dark, so the stars were absolutely amazing. Being below the equator, they were also quite different. Orion was prominant, and the milky way was very visible. But I was not familiar with the other constellations, hope to get to know them.
11,500 feet! Okay! You're getting there! The highest I have ever hiked is fourteen and some change (Colorado), and I thought I was going to cough out a lung. You two are my HEROINES! I hope you have another awesome vomit-free day! (It's a pity you can't fit a baby elephant into your suitcase, though. Sigh.)
ReplyDeleteHi gals,
ReplyDeleteI've been off the net for several days and am catching up with your adventure. It all sounds wonderful - I have my treo clock set to show Seattle and Nairobi time. I think about you everytime I look at it and wonder where you are on the mtn. Best of luck - you'll soon be on the summit! - Jane in Montana
Hey Girls, been meaning to write the last couple of days but been too busy and then tired to get on. Lucy and Riz are doing fine and said to tell you I am spoiling them crazy with yummy things mixed in their food at night but that they want you to hurry up and come back home anyway because they miss you both. Loo also told me to tell you we had more snow here on Vashon about a inch and a half and she was in her glory. It only lasted a day though so now we're back to normal. Not much else new to tell you. Sounds like there are a lot of people with you so I can stop worrying (it's just my nature). Sounds like you're eating well and having a good time. I laughed at the "slow pace" that was funny Di, but in the long run I bet you will be happy about it. Be careful and put more pictures on here when you can, I want to see what you're seeing. All is good at the black and tan dog ranch.
ReplyDeletehugs to both of you! xoxo
